Inside the opened kitchen, Rin was attempting to find his way inside the cold storage without making the blunder of accidentally locking himself inside. Being a bit nervous to move anything from the ornate but rickety shelves to use as a door stopper for fear of both being reprimanded by the staff and potentially breaking something important, he haplessly attempted to reach his way inside the walk-in fridge to get himself a cold water bottle. Cold water was just about the only thing that could allow him to speak again- his voice got dry and raspy easily, and he ended up quite humiliated by it.
This was not working out well- the water still about five inches from his maximum distance, he called out to whoever might be passing by the kitchen or the catering hall.
"Hello? Um... not to be a bother, but would someone help me out? I just need the door to be held for me for about ten seconds..."
Again, humiliating. If only this door wasn't so prone to shutting itself on his own, he would be able to do this without asking for help! In his mind, he prayed that Ishin or at least someone with a good attitude was near the kitchen,

After exploring the basement for a while Lucca and Zulfikar decided to split up. Lucca headed towards the kitchen in hopes to find some sweets, as his earlier meal didn't satisfy his hunger. He got to the kitchen and looked trough some of the cupboards and on all of the counters but he didn't really see anything that he wanted to snack on. After a few minutes he realized that it was fairly cold in there. And then he noticed that the door to the walk-in fridge was being held open by somebody.
"Wait a minute, I've heard that voice before." Lucca thought. Lucca walked over to the fridge door and noticed someone was holding it open with all his might. That someone was, Rin Shirayuki, the SHSL Butler. Lucca grabbed the edge of the door and held it open. "Here you go, good sir.", Lucca said. "Good sir? What the hell was that about? I guess the presence of someone as fancy as Rin has caused me to act a little more refined than usual." Lucca thought.
Lucca held the door open for Rin while he got whatever he was reaching for. The door was fairly heavy, a lot heavier than Lucca thought it would be. Lucca watched as Rin grabbed a bottle of water from inside the fridge. After laughing so hard a Zulfikar's comedy show, Lucca's throat kind of hurt, so he wondered if he should grab some water as well.
"Umm, Rin, could you get me a bottle of water too? My throat hurts at the moment." Lucca asked. "I hope he doesn't think I'm rude for asking so suddenly, I just really want some water."

Rin could feel his throat close up as Lucca Bello drew closer to the scene. The Ultimate Actor. The one who'd be the most attuned to any changes. In came a ridiculously formal greeting, and suddenly the door was held wide open for him.
"Th-thank you too... sir." he responded in as quiet a tone as he could muster, flushed in the face. Rin's voice seemed... undeniably off. There was something strange in the way he was speaking, and he immediately cleared his throat.
"I'll get you some too. Excuse me for just a second, I'll come back and we can enjoy something together in the kitchen." he said, sounding somewhat more normal as he reached in to bring back two bottles of spring water. He returned immediately, allowing for Lucca to let go of the heavy door.
---
Literally moments later, a set of crystal glassware had been set on the table, water poured for both of them. Taking a long sip, Rin seemed much more comfortable, back to his usual, respectable tone.
"If you need anything else, please simply inquire. Please excuse that embarrassing routine... I have what you'd perhaps call a throat condition. I go an hour without water and my voice ends up like... that. You're an actor, correct? You know how one gets when they use a particular voice for a long time... that's similar to what ails me. I find it hard to speak, even in my natural tone."
... Was that even a thing? Rin wasn't faking a voice or accent, right?

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures A thorough rundown of Kiyomine's room had yielded quite the remarkable prize: wine bottles filled with, presumably, wine. Except they didn't. After cursing out all the academy authority figures under the sun, Kiyomine had gotten down to business. At least these people had been kind enough to provide him with grape juice. If they weren't going to give him real alcohol, then he was going to make some. And that's how he found himself in the kitchen on his quest for yeast. There was no chance Hope's Peak would leave around any wine yeast, so baking yeast would just have to do for now. Kiyomine figured he would just have to think of a way to get the rest of the sugar out later. He'd probably also need a juice bottle, and there were more than enough jars to keep him from having to dump all the juice out in the sink. That would've been such a waste. It was just after Kiyomine had finished his preparations that he heard someone's call for assistance, but he had never been one to run in and help others on command, so he lingered in the kitchen, taking his time to wander over to the fridge. He was more interested the fact the door needed to be held open than by the fact someone needed help. It didn't really matter in the end anyway, since a boy Kiyomine recognized as the Ultimate Actor had rushed in to save the day. Might as well leave the hero business to the more experienced. "Hey, what's this I hear about holding open a door?" the spiky-haired brunet asked with lazy nonchalance as he drew near, empty juice bottle in hand. It might've just be easier to take a look around himself, but he figured he might as well ask, even if he was probably interrupting something. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Lucca let go of the door and let out a big sigh. He was glad to finally be able to get some water to soothe his throat that had been bothering him for a little while at this point. He was pretty excited to get to know Rin. He seemed like a nice guy and Lucca wanted to get to know all the other students. Hell, maybe Rin could teach Lucca more about being more sophisticated.
"Oh I didn't notice you there, I was just holding the door open for Rin while he grabs some waters from the fridge. Would you like one as well? If you need anything just let me know, I'll be happy to help."
"No problem! I always like helping people, even if it's a very mundane task. It just makes me feel good! Oh, and sorry about that "good sir" thing earlier. I don't even know why I said that. I guess I just wasn't sure how to greet a butler. I thought it was going to sound sophisticated but I guess it just came out as extremely weird."
"Oh man I'm really sorry to hear about that. But I definitely know what you mean. After performing a stage play I usually can't talk for about a day because I have to speak so loudly so that everyone in the theater can hear me. And even shooting a movie can damage my throat because a scene has to be shot a few times before it makes the cut so my throat is usually hurting after a whole day of shooting. So I always try to keep a few bottles of water around so that I don't completely destroy my throat." Lucca drank the whole glass of water in one gulp and let out a big sigh. "That really hit the spot!" Lucca thought to himself.
Lucca cleared his throat and began to speak again. "So, Rin what is it like being a butler? Like, what do you usually do on a daily basis?"

"Don't worry, we have it covered, sir." answered Rin politely. "Care for a drink?"
Filling a third chalice, it seemed as if there might be time for all three of them to speak.
"Now, then, sir Lucca... I would have to say I encounter a similar sentiment when I assist people. It's like giving someone a gift... even without direct gratitude, it feels very nice to know that somebody had need of me, regardless of the situation. It's a feeling called altruism." he stated matter-of-factly.
"As for being a butler... I serve at a number of social and political events. My main "master" of sorts is a man younger than myself known as Arata Kikyo, and has been my closest friend for many years. I serve as his guardian and caretaker, cleaning his house, preparing meals, doing paperwork, answering his phone, and other such daily tasks. He's a rich young man who lost his parents at a young age, and serving as his caretaker pays well both financially and emotionally. He's a kind person, once you get to know him..." Rin said, before thinking back to who Kikyo was as a person. Jaded and bitter, never quite happy with all he had, often abusing his female servants and chambermaids... yet, Rin saw an odd soft side to him.
"I've escorted the prime minister, and I've also served as a waiter in Novoselic for quite some time. Their princess is quite the darling girl..." Rin admitted, his cheeks getting flushed again.
"Generally, it's odd jobs that anyone can do. I'm just known for being faster at these things than the usual person. I'm not very special at all, to be perfectly clear..."

Now that everything had settled and his throat had been soothed, Lucca felt more relaxed. He was glad to have been acquainted with a couple more people and was hoping to become close friends with them soon. "Oh my god that is quite a lot of things! How do you even have enough energy to do that?" Lucca was pretty surprised. It was pretty incredible that Rin could do all that pretty much every day. Lucca had never really realized but he had never done many chores in his life, never really knew who did all the chores, they just kind of...got done. He felt kind of bad that he had never done chores before.. "Hmm, maybe I should help Rin out with some chores around the mansion, I should at least know what it's like to do chores. It can't be that hard, right?"
"Oh I've been there before. I performed a play for the Royal Family and the people there. The play had to be performed in the middle of the street though, as there was no theater for some reason." Lucca had just remembered how awkward it was to perform in the street. The play the put on needed a lot of room for it to work and the street was so cramped. All Lucca really remember was a lot of people bumping into each other and one of the other actors broke a leg during the performance. But regardless, everyone still really enjoyed it.
"I remember meeting the Princess as well. She had come to meet me after the play and she had a certain twinkle in her eye, that reminded him of a young child. She told me that she had never seen a real play before and that she loved it so much. And of course I was completely in awe the whole time. I had never been in the presence of royalty before so I wasn't really sure how to act. But it really was a great experience."
When Lucca heard this, he tensed up. His usually happy demeanor had vanished and his body language had changed from silly to serious. He slowly stood up and put both hands on the counter. "Listen to me, listen very clearly." Lucca's voice was completely monotone, void of any emotion. "Never say that about yourself. You are special. Everyone is unique, everyone is special. Just because you son't think your talent isn't as good as some of the other ones that people have, doesn't mean anything. You are here because you are special. Your talent measures up to everyone else's talent. You were selected because you are the best." After Lucca had finished his mini speech he had sat down again and his usual silly demeanor had returned. "Please, Rin, don't talk about yourself like that again, unless you want another lecture."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Fridge? Did that mean you could only... Yeah, that was most likely the case. Peaking over Bello to catch a glimpse of said door, Kiyomine let out a quiet huff upon confirming what he'd just learned. Huh, seemed like a pain. He was going to have to be careful. Though Kiyomine was ready to slink away now that his business in the kitchen was finished, Shirayuki's words had him pause and turn in surprise. Well, if they were so kind to offer... Joining the two at the table with a quiet word of thanks, the hedgehog set his things aside to drain his chalice of water and to listen on pleasant conversation. He had been sent here to try and be more social, after all. Listening to Shirayuki talk sent a wave of respect through the ordinarily apathetic Kiyomine. Shirayuki's story reminded him too much of his own living situation but reversed, and by the time the butler had finished with his tale, Kiyomine's gaze had shifted from detached interest to something close to fondness. Though he was quieter and less excitable than Bello was, the spiky-haired teen offered his own response in a quirk of the lips and a light tap to Shirayuki's shoulder. "Sounds like you've had it tough."Then it was Bello's turn to share his story, to which Kiyomine only nodded along, cutting his eyes away to the tabletop. Because what could he say about a meeting with royalty? It seemed everyone at the mansion was amazing in a way Kiyomine was not. Shirayuki didn't seem to think so though, modestly dismissing his own achievements, and immediately, the actor leaped in with a lecture that had Kiyomine rolling his eyes almost hard enough to strain himself. Ah yes, so Bello was one of the optimistic, a trait that wasn't exactly bad, but not something the hedgehog could entirely approve of. "Oh put a cork in it," Kiyomine hissed at the actor, eyes flashing, "Only the truly talented have the luxury of saying that." Staying at this mansion, being admitted to that school was proof enough that they were the cream of the crop, and because they had never known the taste true defeat, they could say insensitive things like this. Maybe Shirayuki needed to hear those words. Maybe they would even make him feel better. But the words had Kiyomine's blood running cold, and he clenched his hands around his goblet hard enough to make the knuckles go white to keep himself from grabbing the actor by the collar and bruising the other's precious face. Kiyomine was here to make friends, not to break the nose of the first person whose ideals didn't agree with him. Forcibly prying his hands from his goblet, Kiyomine flashed a grin that was probably more teeth than humor. "Now as you were saying?" he asked with a forced politeness. "Something about performing for a princess?"MADE BY VEL OF GS

"Energy? Well, I tend to eat balanced meals every day and exercise often. Your tolerance for staying awake performing mundane tasks for long hours really does increase with time- I haven't been out of practice in years, which probably contributes to something." Rin theorized. "Also... coffee. That's very important."
He smiled upon hearing that Lucca had also been to the same country. "It's a nice place, isn't it? Rather cold, though... I was only fourteen when I was there for the first time, and there was a blizzard. The entire capital was snowed in!" he exclaimed with a slight laugh. "I'd want to go back... but in summer, this time."
And that was when... after demeaning himself a little, Lucca's expression hardened as he launched into a self-righteous speech on respecting oneself, to which Rin nodded silently. He said that Rin should think of himself as a student of Hope's Peak would- an Ultimate.
Rin lowered his head in shame. "I-I'm sorry, you just wasted some breath on me there... but I'll try not to say anything else like that in order for us to get along well. All of us here were selected as Ultimates, so we should theoretically stand on the same footing... but this is real life, you know? 'Senpai', 'kouhai', 'servant', 'master', 'teacher', 'student'... all of these distinctions still exist among us, regardless of what type of extravagant fabric we're cut from. Just remember, in case you need anything, just ask- I want you to know that being subordinate to you all is basically my occupation. Thank you for your kindness and concern, and I'll do my best to take care of myself."
He then turned to Kiyo, who had given him a pat on the shoulder and had listened intently all the while.
"Th-thank you, sir..." he said softly, going just slightly red in the face with bashfulness. "It's nice to know that the three of us have one another's backs."
But then... there seemed to be a bit of animosity between the two other boys.
"Hey, hey, it's all right...! No one was trying to convince me otherwise." he reassured, trying to stop any verbal lashing before it started.

"Did I say something rude? I didn't mean to offend anyone." Lucca started to feel flustered. His face started to feel hot and he wasn't sure how to respond. Lucca's mind was in jumbles as he tried to piece together what he wanted to say. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend or hurt anyone. I guess I got so lost in my speech that I wasn't really controlling what I was saying. Again, I offer my sincerest apology."
"Oh yeah about that. I think it was about two or three years ago. The theater group I was in at the time had been invited to perform for the royal family in Novoselic. I was incredibly honored to go perform for royalty. I was feeling good about it until I found out that there was no theater to perform in. We had to perform out in the open in one of the streets, which wasn't the most pleasant experience. I don't remember the exact play we were performing that day but I remember that it did require a fairly big stage, so performing in the street caused a lot of us to bump in to each other a lot. One of the other actors fell from a ladder while he was performing a monologue and broke his leg, and I remember it raining at some point. But everyone still seemed to love it, so I guess that's good."
"After the play the Princess, Miss Sonia Nevermind, came up to me and she told me how much she enjoyed the whole thing. She asked me whole bunch of questions as well, some of them were pretty strange though. But still, she was a very nice young woman."
"Don't worry about it, I just really hate seeing people cutting themselves down like that. I just like seeing people happy. Really don't get yourself down about it, I didn't waste any breath."

Sometimes the only pay-off for having any faith Is when it's tested again and again everyday I'm still comparing your past to my future It might be your wound but they're my sutures Perhaps Bello was just thickheaded. For all his skill in acting, it seemed that he couldn't perceive the barb in Kiyomine's words about the princess, apologizing without even really understanding the reason why Kiyomine had felt so upset. ...In other words, was Bello an idiot? Or was he just innocent? Well, regardless of what he was, at least he had good intentions. Lowering his head, Kiyomine closed his eyes and raised a hand to rub the back of his neck, temper visibly cooling. He just couldn't stay mad at someone who didn't know any better. "Not so much offend as being insensitive, Bello-san. Though Shirayuki is right to say that theoretically, we're the same level, that really isn't the case. To generalize and say that 'everyone is special' is..." Shaking his head again, the hedgehog sighed. For the average high schooler like himself, the sky really was the limit, and that was the truth of it no matter what anyone might say. To hear someone totally out of his league spout sweet nothings was maybe just a little... Well, best not dwell on it. Waving a hand as if to dispel the air that had settled on the trio, Kiyomine let Bello's chatter wash over him. Bello wasn't a bad storyteller, and Kiyomine managed to crack a smile at some parts. It seemed things might be okay after all; he could maybe live with this. Just as he was starting to relax again, something Shirayuki had said flashed through his mind, and Kiyomine froze, tensing up again, not in anger, but in embarrassment. "H-have each others' backs?" he butted in after the actor had finished talking, whipping his head around to stare at Shirayuki. Thoroughly caught off guard by the announcement, Kiyomine stared at the butler and the actor for a beat before looking away, unable to look either in the eye in his embarrassment. "Do we really?"It was only day one and his shield of solitude was already crumbling. Shit, spending time with his partner really was making him soft; he had a fucking reputation to uphold! "Not that I'm not happy you feel that way but..." Yeah okay, so maybe he was a little more happy about being called friends with these people (because that's what having someone's back meant, right?) than he should be, but that didn't mean anything, did it? "Aren't you a little quick to trust? I mean, we've only just met, haven't we?" Just because they had drinks together, was that really enough to call each other friends? "Trusting your back to someone so easily is pretty dangerous, you know?" Then again, the other two did talk quite a bit about themselves... MADE BY VEL OF GS
